£1000 deposit for Employment Tribunals
From 6 April 2012 a party bringing an employment tribunal claim can be ordered to pay a deposit of £1000.
Prior to this date, if a judge felt that a claim had little chance of succeeding, he could order the party in question to pay £500 to continue the proceedings. This has now increased to £1000.
If the party refuses to pay the deposit the case will be struck out.
It is hoped such legislation will deter people taking false or malicious claims to an employment tribunal.
