Olympic Themed Marketing
Business
With the Olympics due to start next week the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) has reminded advertisers about its objective to protect the Olympic brand.
LOCOG has wide legal rights and any advertising that creates an association between a business or brand and the Olympic Games could infringe these rights, even if the Games are not explicitly referred to or the official logo used.
Further, the terms of Olympic and Paralympic tickets prohibit them being used for advertising, promotional or marketing purposes without the consent of LOCOG, as this right is reserved for sponsors. This means that they cannot be offered as prizes in promotions.
So the message is: please get behind Team GB and support the Olympics generally but don’t try and use the Olympic brand to promote your business.
