A shake up of the family law procedures in England and Wales comes into force on 6 April 2011. From this date it will become compulsory for all people wishing to apply to the Court for financial relief (in divorce) or orders relating to children to have attended a preliminary mediation appointment first (subject to exemptions). The government hopes that this change of procedure will reduce the number of cases that are dealt with by the courts.
At Hart Reade we adopt a conciliatory approach, with a focus on resolving matters swiftly and amicably. We try to avoid Court proceedings wherever possible in an effort to keep costs to a minimum.
