A 13 year old schoolboy who was banned from school because of his hair style has taken his case to the High Court.  The boy, known as ‘G’ for legal reasons, claims his school is racist for banning him from having his hair braided in cornrows.  It is claimed that being told he was excluded on his first day was damaging to his self esteem.  The High Court has heard arguments that the child’s exclusion breached race and discrimination laws.  The school has defended the ban claiming the strict hair and uniform policy is in place in an effort to tackle gang culture.
