Greater Transparency Proposed in Family Courts
Family Law
A report for the Ministry of Justice has revealed support for greater transparency and a better understanding of the family justice system.
The Family Courts Information Pilot was designed to test the feasibility of providing written judgements to parties in certain family cases and posting anonymised versions on the British and Irish Legal Information Institute (BAILII) website.
The information was deemed to be of great value to researches, policy analysts and for training purposes. It also offered an additional backup in the case of lost files and would be useful for children to be able to access written judgements later in life. However, concerns were raised about the protection and privacy of the families involved and in regard to a national roll out of the scheme in a time of government cut backs.
