Maintenance Claims
Family and Children
New EU rules for the collection of maintenance payments came in to force this week. The new rules will make it easier to claim maintenance payments when one of the parties lives in a different EU country and refuses to provide financial help. There is now an EU wide system in place to help recover payments. In most cases an award for maintenance in one country will be enforceable in another without the need for any special procedures.
It is hoped this will benefit children by providing faster payments. It will also remove the burden of pursuing such matters from families and governments.
