Iain Duncan Smith has used his speech at the recent Conservative party conference to issue a clear statement that married couples must be given tax breaks. The Work and Pensions Secretary believes the move will recognise the important role of a stable marriage in creating a strong society. It is thought the statement will serve as a reminder to Prime Minister David Cameron who pledged to back marriage and stop couples being penalised.
