Family – Mediation
Following the introduction of the Children and Family’s Act 2014, amendments have been made to the Family Procedure Rules. A significant change relates to Family Mediation Information and Assessment Meetings (MIAMS).
There are now new provisions relating to the requirement for prospective applicants who wish to commence certain Family Proceedings to attend a MIAMS in the first instance.
The rules set out the types of Family Proceedings to which this requirement applies to, the process for making an Application, the grounds for exemption to attend a MIAMS and the power for a Court to direct that both parties attend a MIAMS when exemption has not been claimed.
