Probate Fee Increase
From the 26 January 2022 the fee for probate applications in England and Wales will increase to £273 for both professional and personal applications. The Ministry of Justice estimates that the additional average annual cost to the court users from the fee increase is about £20 million, all of which will go to HMCTS.
Currently the application is lower for professional applications. The government’s plan to equalise fees for all applicants was announced in July 2021. The reasoning for the change is that all users should pay the same fee for the same service. The new single fee is set to cover the costs of delivery without making a profit.
