Statutory Legacy Increase

With effect from 26 July 2023 the Statutory legacy has increased from £270,000 to £322,000.  This is the amount that passes to a surviving spouse where the deceased leaves children and does not leave a valid Will.

The spouse also receives one of half of the remainder of the estate and personal possessions.

If you want to understand these rules better or to control what happens to your estate using a Will please contact one of our experienced solicitors for advice.
