Children and Families Bill
Family Law
The Justice Committee broadly welcomed proposed changes in the draft Children and Families Bill.
In its report the committee maintains its concerns about the draft clause on shared parenting. Although designed to encourage the involvement of both parents the committee are concerned it may detract from the principle of what is in the best interest of the child.
The report does welcome the government’s commitment to reducing delay in the care process and embracers the focus on providing information and assessing separating couples for mediation.
The committee remains sceptical about the likely effect of Child Arrangements Orders.
