The Government is undertaking major reform of the child maintenance system to ensure children in separated families do no lose out on the payments they are entitled to.
Around half of all children in separated families lose out on maintenance because their parents do not have effective arrangements in place.
Parents will now be offered help and support from the point of separation so they can work together in the best interests of their children.
As well as an investment of £20 million in support services the Government will also introduce a new statutory child maintenance scheme for those parents that cannot make their own arrangements.
