Number of Children in Care Varies Between Regions

Family and Children

A recent CAFCASS report has discovered large variations in the number of children taken into care across different regions.

The study has found that some areas are ten times more likely to take a child in to care than others.  The national average is nine children in every 10,000.

CAFCASS have said it is difficult to explain the difference in the range and that they will be contacting local authorities to try and understand the causes.  The year up to April 2012 has seen an 11% increase in care cases.
