Family Law
The government has launched a consultation on the definition of domestic violence. The public, police, charities and practitioners will all be asked their view with the aim of deciding whether the term needs to be broadened to help provide better protection and support to victims. The consultation also seeks views on whether psychological abuse or ‘coercive control’ should be included as well as extending the term to cover those under the age of 18. The Home Secretary, Theresa May, set out the consultation plans explaining that it is vital that victims understand what constitutes abuse so that they can seek help at the earliest opportunity.
