Reforms to the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012 received Royal assent on 1 May 2012.
The Act removes a number of types of case from legal aid provision – including most areas of family law. It also increases mediation funding to £25 million and abolishes the Legal Services Commission.
The measures in the Act will come into force in stages over the coming year.
