Legal Aid

Family, Divorce and Finances

Lawyers are calling on Kenneth Clarke and the Ministry of Justice to pause the government’s legal aid reforms.  The Law Society has attacked plans to remove half a million cases a year from entitlement to funding, saying the proposals could have a damaging effect on vulnerable members of the community.  The government plans to remove funding for cases for divorce and child maintenance as well as welfare and clinical negligence.

The Law Society believes the changes are too hasty and ill advised claiming the coalition government is disregarding official consultation exercises.
