Same Sex Marriage in Scotland?
Family Law
The Scottish government intends to bring in legislation to allow same-sex marriage following the results of an initial consultation.
Under the proposals no religious bodies will be compelled to conduct same-sex marriages. Where a body does decide to conduct same-sex marriages the Scottish government intends to protect individuals who consider such ceremonies contrary to their faith.
The legislation will require an amendment to the Equality Act 2010 which will be discussed with the UK government to secure agreement before the formal introduction of the bill.
