Jewish Divorce Approved by High Court

The High Court approved the divorce of a Jewish couple which had been settled under rabbinical law, Beth Din. The decision is thought to be a first in British legal history.
The couple sought High Court approval after referring their dispute to a senior rabbi in the New York Beth Din. The judge ruled that the principles relied upon were consistent with English Law. However he noted that the decision was not binding as this would undermine the authority of the court.
