Presumption of Shared Parenting to be Introduced?
Family and Children
As reported in the media children are to get new legal rights to maintain a relationship with both parents.
This comes after evidence showed that a large number of children from broken homes lost contact with one parent forever.
Courts will now have a duty to ensure that children have an equal right to a relationship with both parents unless it is not in the interests of their welfare.
It is hoped that the change will prevent loss of contact with the parent that has to move out of the matrimonial home. This is quite often the father.
The presumption of shared parenting is expected to come into force this year.
