Increase in tribunal compensation limits
From 6 April 2016 the amount of compensation you can recover in an Employment Tribunal will increase. Some of the increases are set out below:-
- The maximum basic award for an unfair dismissal will increase to £14,370 (from £14,250).
- The maximum compensatory award for an ‘ordinary’ unfair dismissal claim will be the lower of 52 weeks actual pay or £78,962 (from £78,335). This cap on the compensatory award does not apply to all unfair dismissal claims – some types of claims can attract unlimited compensation.
- The maximum amount of a week’s pay (used for calculating redundancy payment and various other awards, including the unfair dismissal basic award) will increase to £479 (from £475).
