The Importance of Having a Valid Will and Lasting Power of Attorney

Faye Harlow-Smith and Angjela Shehu set up camp at the Beacon Centre for the day to inform the public about the importance of making a Will and Lasting Powers of Attorney.

Faye and Angjela greeted local residents, chatted with other businesses and offered some free chocolates all in the name of private client law.

Having a valid Will and Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) in place is one of the most important steps you can take to protect your wishes and ease the burden on your loved ones. A Will ensures your Estate is distributed according to your intentions, avoiding the default intestacy rules which may not reflect your personal circumstances or relationships. This is especially vital if you have children from previous relationships or wish to leave gifts to friends or charities.

An LPA, on the other hand, allows someone you trust to make decisions about your health, welfare or financial affairs if you become unable to do so yourself. Without an LPA, your loved ones may face delays and complications in being able to help you when you most need it. Planning ahead with both a Will and LPA provides clarity, security and peace of mind for you and those around you.
