TripAdvisor Claim Misleading

Business

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has ruled that claims by TripAdvisor that it’s reviews are genuine are misleading.

The TripAdvisor website contains reviews by travellers which the website claims to be genuine.  As these reviews can be posted without any need for verification there is no way of proving if these reviews are indeed genuine.  Although hotels have the right to reply on the website the ASA concluded that this was insufficient in helping consumers identify which reviews were genuine and which were not.

It is therefore important that businesses that allow consumer reviews do not make claims that the reviews are genuine if there is no way to prove that they are.
