Modern Workplaces
Employment
The Government’s ‘Consultation on Modern Workplaces’ closed for responses on 8 August 2011.
The consultation considered proposals to update or extend four areas of employment legislation.
Maternity leave – introducing a new right to enable parents to share maternity and paternity leave more flexibly between them
Flexible working – extending the ability to request flexible working to all employees
Working time regulations – amending provisions relating to carry-over of annual leave
Equal pay – requiring an employment tribunal to order an employer to conduct a pay audit in cases where they have found that there is disparity in pay between men and women
The Government has indicated that a number of its proposals will need further consultation with a view to new legislation being made as soon as possible in this Parliament. The amendments to the Working Time Regulations are due to come in to force in 2012.
